Fomenko says that he brought a lot of knowledge from his racing career to bear on the Marussia. We see elements of just about every supercar on the market in its appearance, but it manages to still look unique. While he envisions producing a pure electric car sometime down the road, the company's first project is a hybrid.

The Marussia is slated to use a 240-hp, 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine, most likely from Renault or Nissan, but it's unclear where the electric drive components will originate from. While much of the car's parts are expected to be sourced from established companies, approximately 35% of the content will be Russian.

Adding a bit of sizzle to its speed, the Marussia will also have "a host of gadgets," including a 4G Yota network with 10 Mbps data transfer rates at vehicle speeds of up to 120 km/h. Bluetooth, GPS and video screens all around, plus a 320 GB hard drive to round out the electronics.

The goal for the electric supercar is a 400km range, but Russian winters mean the batteries will need a boost. That's where nanotechnology comes in. Fomenko thinks the solution might be in a "nanotech project made at one of Russia's big construction bureaus." The company foresees a 0-62 mph dash of around five seconds and a Tesla-like price tag of $100,000. Plans call for the first customer cars to be delivered next Fall, with race versions taking part in the 2010 edition of FIA GT championship. Fomenko is clearly nothing if not ambitious.

Nissan GT-R 2009

The good: The 2009 Nissan GT-R is a unique car, employing impressive tech in its engine, suspension, and drive system. But its cabin electronics are also top-notch, with an advanced navigation system, digital music system, and cell phone integration. It tops the cabin tech with an in-dash performance computer.

The bad: The ride is rough in the GT-R for normal street driving, and the mileage stays below 15 mpg.

The bottom line: The 2009 Nissan GT-R is a technical tour de force, with evidence of brilliance throughout. We would have a hard time with the GT-R as an everyday driver, but it offers fun and exhilaration at heart-stopping levels.

VW Scirocco R20 T

To make the difference between VW Scirocco and VW Golf 6 GTI, the manufacturer from Wolfsburg is working on a more powerfull version R20T with a 265 horse power engine for the year 2010.

Even with the 2.0 L Turbo motorization, VW Scirocco isn't as fast as a sports coupe should be, but the germans are preparing for 2010 the supreme version of the legendary model. This one will be named R20T and it's motorization will be the one from Audi S3. Practically, this means a 65 horse power added to the model we know now.

This dinamic model will reach 100 km/h in just 6 seconds and will have a maximum speed of 250 km/h, electronically limited. Visually, this model will look 80% like the Scirocco GT24 concept, and 20% will be the giant aileron.

Scirocco R20T will be more agile, faster, but the most important thing, it will be more expensive then any other Scirocco made before and it's expected in the begining of the year 2010.

Nissan 370Z(translated into English and Romanian)

There’s something about the three official publicity photos of the 2009 Nissan 370Z that just doesn’t cut it. The heavily retouched images shot in overcast lighting look almost computer-generated. Luckily, three new photos have leaked onto the Web showing a real 370Z at a recent Nissan event. What’s more, a new official press photo of a yellow ‘Z has also leaked online, providing yet another perspective.

These latest photos are probably the most we’re going to get to see until the unveiling at the Los Angeles auto show later this month.

Designed as a replacement to the 350Z, the styling is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Overall, the 370Z — which was developed under the code name C53D — appears to keep the same general shape as the current 350Z. As previously speculated, the newest Z receives a headlight treatment similar to the design seen on the 2009 Maxima. The headlamps will reportedly use LEDs.

The rear is also a bit stubbier, with a sharper crease along the trailing edge of the hatch. The 370Z’s rear taillights will have a fishhook design similar to those seen on the Maxima’s headlights.

The 370Z is expected to use the same VQ37VHR powerplant found in the Infiniti G37 — a V6 displacing 3.7-liter — delivering at least 330 horsepower. Recent rumors indicate a 4.5-liter V8 might also be offered. According to Japan’s Best Car, Nissan’s Chief of Production confirmed a bent eight was a distinct possibility.

Suspension duties for the new car will be handled by a double wishbone setup up front with a multi-link setup out back. Brembo brakes and 18 and 19 inch wheels will also be part of the 370Z package.

Despite a serious upgrade in hardware, the new 370Z is said to weigh less than the outgoing 350Z — giving further credence to its performance credentials.

In December of 2006, Nissan product planning VP Larry Dominique said the next-generation Z would “have considerably more performance than the current model and give a visual stimulus beyond today’s Z.” He said it would continue to deliver on the promise of being attainable to a wide range of people.

Check back for live images and all the details after the 370Z makes its Los Angeles Auto Show debut.

Citroen GT Concept-"Never say never?"(translated into English and Romanian)

The amazing GT by CITROËN is the first ever car to be specifically designed to bring the virtual and real worlds together. The car makes its global premiere at the Paris Motor Show where visitors can actually drive the car in a true to life simulator on the Citroën stand.
GT by CITROËN, a joint venture between Citroën and the makers of Gran Turismo, was created for the eagerly anticipated 5th game in the multi-million selling Playstation series.
At almost five metres long, GT by CITROËN packs the latest hi-tech racing equipment into an exaggerated sporty frame. Planted on 21-inch, diamond-effect, aluminium wheels, the car's gullwing doors, over-sized rear end with mobile spoiler, gaping air intakes and flat underside exude the qualities of an accomplished racer.
With chrome chevrons on the smooth, aerodynamic, front end asserting the car's Citroën identity, the GT by CITROËN is bursting with styling cues typical of the Company's creative flair. The sharp lines and sculpted body are emphasised by the white-to-grey flared paint work which gives the car a forceful look and an impression of speed - even when it's standing still.
The sleekly muscled racer sports a large wraparound windscreen adding to the impact of the car's size and dynamic appearance. Penetrating blue LED headlamps and slim-line carbon fibre rear view mirrors - which appear to be suspended in mid-air - add to GT by CITROËN's futuristic racing style.

Premium materials used throughout GT by CITROËN's hi-tech interior reflect the car's distinguished and refined personality. In contrast to its light body work, the cabin features a darker, more brooding colour scheme with two padded racing seats finished in black leather and fitted with four point harnesses. The dark leather, along with copper and steel touches inside the cabin and a low-slung driving position, create an opulent and powerful racing environment. Important on-board data is displayed via a red LED head-up display, allowing drivers to maintain focus on the track.

Mercedes CLS 2011

  • Development of the second generation Mercedes-Benz CLS is well underway as the production model is set be unveiled during a major car show in late 2010 with sales following in early 2011. According to our sources, a hybrid version of the new CLS will definitely be offered. It will get the same powertrain as the forthcoming S400 Hybrid that will be launched at the end of 2009, which means that the CLS Hybrid will make use of lithium-ion batteries that not only weigh less but also offer more power than the nickel hydride units used in today’s hybrids. In terms of styling, as the rendering that we found on French car magazine Autoplus reveals, Mercedes-Benz’ 4door-coupe model will retain the basic shape of the current generation model adorned with styling elements from the German automaker’s newest cars.

  • Volkswagen will use the 2008 Paris Auto Show as a launch pad for its new sixth-generation 2010 Golf GTI. The new performance-based hatchback follows closely on the heels of the standard sixth-generation Golf, which is also due to get its first public debut in the French capital next week and then go on sale in Europe.

2009 Audi Q3

Audi is poised to introduce two crossover sport-utility vehicles in the next two years. Late in 2008, the mid-size Q5 is expected to debut on the same architecture as the '08 A5 coupe and next-generation A4 sedan. A year after the Q5 goes on sale, Audi will follow up with the smaller and sportier Q3 previewed by the Cross Coupe Quattro concept shown at the Shanghai auto show. Built on the same platform as the '09 Volkswagen Tiguan, the Q3 will have a transversely mounted engine and all-wheel drive provided by an electronically controlled center clutch pack. Additionally, an electronically controlled locking rear differential similar to that of Saab's XWD system may find its way into the Q3. To distance the Q3 from its Volkswagen brother, the Audi will offer on-road performance, won't have a speck of off-road ability, and will be firmly entrenched in the $30,000 range.

Surprisingly, the Q3 will be packed with several features that Audi generally reserves for its sportiest cars, the RS 4 and R8. Those options will include ceramic composite brakes like those of the R8, cross-linked dampers similar to the system on the RS 4, and driver-selectable suspension settings. In addition, a so-called drive-select program will give the choice of three different modes (sport, efficiency, and dynamic) that affect suspension tuning, throttle response, transmission shifts, and steering effort. As one would expect, in efficiency mode the Q3 will work toward maximizing fuel economy: The engine will shut off when idling and minimize the use of the air conditioning. Audi claims efficiency mode will boost fuel economy by 20 percent.

A new 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder will power the Q3. This engine will be introduced in the redesigned A4. Expected to meet emissions standards in all 50 states, the new engine will produce about 200 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Coupled to Audi's S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, the powertrain is purported to be able to return 40 mpg. In addition to the diesel, the 200-hp gas-powered turbo four from the Audi A3 will be offered.

At 172.4 inches long, the Q3 doesn't promise Chevy Suburban levels of interior room, but Audi claims that pushing the wheels toward the corners will maximize interior volume. Other differences from the Tiguan will be a more aggressive exterior design with a large Audi-style grille, large wheels, and Q7 styling cues. One problem that remains is the name. Infiniti unleashed its legal office on Audi for using the letter "Q" for the Q7. Audi settled with Infiniti and the Japanese automaker agreed to let Audi have the Q7 and Q5 names, but the future of the Q3 name remains in limbo.

Renault Megane 3 Coupe

Even though what you’re seeing in these pictures is most likely a clay model, this is how the production version of the three-door Megane will look like when it goes on sale in early 2009. The photos that come to us from a patent application made within the EU reveal that the 3door variant of Renault’s subcompact hatch draws its inspiration –though heavily toned down- from the Megane Coupe Concept that appeared at the Geneva motorshow earlier this year. Compared to the 5door model, the Megane Coupe features a substantially sleeker profile thanks to the lower roofline, the triangular-shaped rear windows and the sloped rear-end.

Renault Megane Coupe 2009 3-DoorUnder the bonnet, expect to see a similar engine range with the Megane 5d. What this means is that petrol engine options will include 1.6-liter units developing 100 and 110 HP, a 2.0-liter motor with 140 HP and two new turbocharged units, the 1.4-liter TCe producing 130 HP and the 2.0-liter TCe with 180 HP. For those that favor diesel power, Renault will offer the Megane Coupe with several dCi units delivering between 85 and 160 HP.

No word yet on whether Renault will introduce a successor to the almighty Megane RS and its special edition siblings like the R26 and the lightweight R26.R that lapped the ‘Ring in 8 min and 17 sec (see video here), but judging from the French automaker's past, a range-topping sport version should be considered a done deal.

Land Rover LRX CONCEPT

A striking black and silver version of Land Rover's acclaimed LRX cross-coupe concept makes its global debut at the 78e Salon International de l'Automobile, alongside the original white LRX revealed earlier to widespread acclaim (at NAIAS, Detroit, in January).

"With its metallic black paintwork, silver roof and precisely detailed exterior features, the second version of the LRX concept is designed to show how well the vehicle can deliver a contemporary example of personalisation," says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's design director.

"The LRX concept already has an abundance of character, but you can tune the appearance to reflect a customer's own personality and lifestyle. Clever use of colour and subtle additional details enable the vehicle to be tailored to suit an individual's style, without compromising the clean design of the LRX," he adds.

No production plans have been confirmed yet for the LRX concept, and both versions will now be used to gauge public, dealer and media response to Land Rover's cross-coupe concept, as well as its interesting new opportunities for vehicle personalisation.

"We were hugely excited by the positive response that the original LRX concept generated when we showed it at the Detroit Show a few weeks ago," says Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover. "But we've always seen scope for LRX to provide a whole showroom of different models, with a range of powertrains including hybrids and bio-fuel capable engines."

Using lightweight material technologies, Land Rover has developed a series of bespoke features for the black and silver LRX that add to the vehicle's individuality and flexibility. The removable carbon composite roof panel contrasts with the silver-coloured roof, and has integral anchor points for fixing snowboards and other sports equipment. The sleek black roof bars provide another option for roof-top loads, and a compact step above the rear bumper provides for easy roof-top access. More carbon composite is used for the protective underbody plates at front and rear, while new, lightweight alloy wheels with unique-design tyres signal purposefulness. And to protect the vehicle when the going gets tough - in either urban or off-road situations - there are smart, resilient mouldings on bumpers and sills.

"The black and silver LRX shows a real world breadth of capability. Its all-terrain ability, extra protection and load-carrying versatility help emphasise that it's an authentic Land Rover, while its compact dimensions, agile handling and efficient powertrain make it a practical proposition for everyday driving," says Phil Popham.

BOLD EVOLUTION
The LRX concept marks a bold evolution of Land Rover design, signalling the brand's potential shift into new areas of the market, while remaining true to its core values. As the company celebrates its 60th anniversary during 2008, the three-door LRX, with its more compact size, lighter weight and sustainability-focused technologies, clearly addresses the needs of a changing world and offers the potential of 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg (4.7 l/100km) on the European combined cycle.

"The LRX concept delivers the powerful message that we are as serious about sustainability as we are confident about the continuing relevance and desirability of our vehicles," says Phil Popham, Land Rover's managing director.

"LRX is in every respect a Land Rover, but it's a very different Land Rover.
"LRX has unmistakable Land Rover design and the breadth of capability that you'd expect from our vehicles. But it carries those essentials into a segment where the brand has never been before, and with a proposed level of efficiency that would make it one of the cleanest vehicles in its class. It is Land Rover's way of affirming the brand's responsible approach to future product development. At this stage, LRX is purely a concept, designed to help us develop our thinking as well as gauge customer reaction – but this feels like a hugely exciting direction to take."

COMPACT AND PREMIUM
LRX is described as a cross-coupé and dramatically extends the scope of what Land Rover represents. Though 149 mm (5.9 in) shorter than the Freelander 2 / LR2 and 205 mm (8.1 in) lower, LRX is conceived as a premium car, designed to appeal to new customers in the luxury and executive sector – those who want many of the benefits of a 4x4 and the presence of a larger vehicle, but in a more compact package.

The first all-new Land Rover revealed since Gerry McGovern became the company's design director, LRX is a natural extension of the Land Rover range, complementing the existing models and helping to define a new segment. Its many recognisable Land Rover design cues include bold new interpretations of the signature clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid 'wheel-at-each-corner' stance.

"LRX is a design born out of passion for the brand, but it is different, relevant, engaging and exciting – because Land Rover has never built ordinary cars," says Gerry McGovern. "LRX has a highly desirable identity and the design alludes strongly to its capability, while clearly underlining our forward-looking philosophy – it's a Land Rover that would be comfortable on Bond Street or Fifth Avenue, but wouldn't flinch at getting its wheels dirty."

Its compact size is one of its greatest assets, which will appeal to anyone who wants the versatile ability of an agile 4x4 with the cachet of the Land Rover name. In addition, its lower weight and the reduced aerodynamic drag resulting from the smaller frontal area would help give significant gains in fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.

HIGHLY EFFICIENT POWERTRAIN
The white LRX is conceived as a highly fuel-efficient 2.0-litre, turbodiesel hybrid, capable of running on bio-diesel. In combination with other Land Rover technologies, this powertrain could reduce fuel consumption by as much as 30% compared with other 4x4s of comparable size, and reduce CO2 emissions to approximately 120 g/km.

LRX's improved efficiencies are the result of advanced mechanical and electrical energy-saving elements, which are combined to achieve cumulative gains in many areas.

The concept's integrated Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) is particularly significant in Land Rover terms as it would allow LRX to use electric drive alone at lower speeds while retaining full (even improved) 4x4 ability in tough conditions. Unlike the hybrid technology used by some 4x4 rivals, Land Rover's unique solution retains mechanical drive to all four wheels.

Off-road, the ERAD would provide additional Torque only when it is needed, and with maximum electrical Torque from standstill, this solution offers even better low-speed control and enhanced pull-away on difficult surfaces (such as packed snow or wet grass) or when towing.

On the road, the ERAD would allow low-speed traffic creep up to 20 mph (32 km/h) on electric power alone, with the Integrated Starter-Generator (ISG) function re-starting the engine automatically when needed. The electric drive would then continue to assist the mechanical drive until the engine is running in its most efficient range, benefiting both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The ISG would also stop the engine automatically when the vehicle halts in traffic, so the engine does not idle needlessly, and restart it quickly and smoothly as required.

The electrical drive system uses power stored in a dedicated high-voltage, high-capacity, lithium-ion battery pack, independent of the normal 12-volt battery. This is charged by a regenerative braking energy system, also working through the ERAD.

LRX also incorporates Hill Descent Control and Land Rover's acclaimed and user-friendly Terrain Response system, which optimises vehicle drivability and comfort, as well as maximising Traction. On LRX, this has five modes, including the new and efficiency-focused 'Eco' mode. Principally for on-road use, this configures all the integrated elements of the car's system for optimised fuel economy. The other four Terrain Response modes provided are sports (also new), general driving, sand and 'grass/gravel/snow' (a single programme for slippery surfaces).

EXTENDING 'BREADTH OF CAPABILITY'
The positioning of LRX could be described as moving subtly from traditional SUV to crossover, with its more car-like appearance and dynamics that are sportier and on-road biased. But while its character is underlined by excellent agility, handling and performance, LRX also promises the widest breadth of capability in the class.

The design of LRX was developed entirely in-house by Gerry McGovern's team, driven by a passion to create a car that truly represents Land Rover's future thinking. It has a very dynamic profile, with a distinctive taper to the floating roofline and a muscular shoulder running the length of the car, accentuated by the rising beltline. The glazing wraps right around LRX, with no exposed pillars, creating a bold design graphic. The architectural structure of the upper body can be glimpsed through the windows and roof – echoing some of the best contemporary buildings.

Pushing the wheels out to the four corners helps give the car its purposeful stance, and its front-end design makes a powerful and instantly recognisable statement of Land Rover's identity. The carefully sculpted corners dramatically reduce the car's visual overhangs front and rear.

There are new interpretations of Land Rover's traditional clamshell bonnet, distinctive headlamps and perforated two-bar grille. The car has jewel-like, tapering blade indicator clusters front and rear, and the wheelarches are wide but softly integrated, housing highly polished, 20-inch alloy wheels.

The fine detailing includes additional polished aluminium in the form of side-strips, side and bonnet vents, and the exterior door releases, which are concealed in the car's shoulders. Graphic details such as these appear to be 'punched out' of the smooth body surfaces rather than overlaid on them. The 'frosted' white paint colour was especially developed for LRX and its visual depth helps to highlight the car's form.

IMPECCABLE, PREMIUM INTERIOR
The interior of the LRX concept clearly demonstrates how a compact Land Rover can still be roomy, practical, versatile – and sophisticated. The impeccably executed cabin features a combination of soft leathers in rich tan and dark chocolate, with polished aluminium details, while the visible structures of the seats, instrument panel and roof architecture not only give a highly distinctive look but also help save weight.

The 'fast' sloping architecture of the centre console reflects LRX's sporty dynamics, as does the distinctive binnacle over the instrument cluster. The electronic display uses 'floating' LCD graphics to create a three-dimensional look that can be personalised for different drivers, as well as interacting with LRX's touch-screen display.

The instrument graphics present data in layers depending on their level of importance, to give maximum relevant information with minimum distraction. When appropriate, displayed information transfers between the main instrument cluster and the touch screen. Further adding to LRX's involving personality, different Terrain Response modes are matched by changes in the cabin's background 'mood' lighting colour – green in 'Eco', red in sports and blue in general driving and off-road modes.

CLEVER USE OF SPACE
Although LRX is compact, clever use of space makes it impressively roomy, and many neat design touches maximise its practicality. A second touch-screen area gives a fully interactive display and control for LRX's iPhone docking facility.

On either side of the horizontally-split, power-operated tailgate, removable and power-adjustable speakers include an iPod docking station. There is also a coolbox, plus a bottle chiller that can be clipped to the lowered tailgate. The tailgate also has integral aluminium cupholders between two padded seating areas, for a new twist on the idea of a traditional Land Rover tailgate lunch.

Every interior design detail combines to maximise both actual space and the feeling of space. The clear roof is supported by a 'spider' frame running into the A-pillars, and the rear quarter pillars have glazed apertures for improved visibility and a lighter feel in the cabin.

LRX's distinctive seats 'float' on individual plinths and have open frameworks to reinforce the impression of light, airy interior space – while also creating useful under-seat and under-floor stowage areas. The clever, articulated mechanism of the powered seat backs maximises interior flexibility and helps create a large, flat storage area when needed. With the rear seats folded forward, two mountain bikes can be fitted upright behind them, with front wheels removed and stored in dedicated slots in the floor. Alternatively, skis and surfboards can be accommodated in the generous load space, which has multiple tie-down options and a through-loading option.

"Flexible load-carrying capacity is fundamental to the concept of LRX," says Gerry McGovern. "With this car, we've interpreted the idea of Land Rover 'breadth of capability' to be more about versatility and on-road dynamics than about ultimate off-roading. This meets the needs of the new customers that we believe would be attracted by this type of car; they will not only appreciate LRX's flexibility, but will also recognise that it has been packaged with the highest levels of precision."

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT DESIGN
The exposed structures of the seats, roof and instrument panel are just one novel approach that Land Rover's designers have taken to reduce vehicle weight. Another example is replacing the glass for the side windows and roof with polycarbonate from SABIC Innovative Plastics, which is around 40% lighter. The polycarbonate also blocks virtually all UV light (protecting interior materials from fading), while special nano-technology within the material reduces infra-red transmission, helping to keep the interior cool.

Even the choice of premium-quality trim materials reflects Land Rover's deep thinking about sustainability, with vegetable-tanned leather (chromium-free, so better for recycling), extensive use of aluminium (both lightweight and readily recyclable) and carpeting made of felt from sustainable sources. And the luxurious, vanilla-coloured 'fine suede' on the door inserts and headliner is a 100% recycled material made from used plastic bottles and fibres.

"We are determined to make sustainability a key element in our future product design and the way we do business, while still creating vehicles that have a strong emotional appeal as well as fulfilling people's practical needs," says Phil Popham. "No single technology delivers all the answers to whole-life sustainability, but the LRX concept brings together some of the ideas for the future that interest us, integrating them into a car that we believe represents an exciting way forward for Land Rover."

Peugeot RC Hymotion 4

Rather than stress their mind grapes in an attempt to create a new design direction, Peugeot instead chose to merge two popular designs from previous auto shows into the Peugeot RC HYmotion4. This mid-sized sports sedan is essentially a hybrid of the Peugeot 308 RC Z coupe concept and the full-sized 908 RC concept, but this time powered by the HYmotion drivetrain that features a small gas engine in the trunk and an electric motor under the hood. Though we're not sure of production plans for this sedan, the designers managed to expertly capture the "four-door coupe" proportions. Let's hope that doesn't go to waste. Press release below the jump.

Elegant, powerful and sporty, the RC HYmotion4 is a concept car born of the passion and experience of Peugeot engineers and designers. This ‘Touring Car’ coupé, the missing link between the RC  and RC • concept cars of 2002 and the 908 RC (one of the stars of the last Paris Motor Show) is a veritable laboratory on wheels bringing together numerous stylistic, engineering and technological ideas in preparation for the future.

With four doors, four seats and four wheel drive powered by the highly innovative HYmotion4 hybrid architecture, this concept car offers the perfect blend of driving pleasure and environmental friendliness. It features a 1.6-litre THP petrol engine with a power output of 160kW (218bhp) located at the rear of the vehicle, combined with a 70kW (95bhp) electric motor under the bonnet.

Together they provide a maximum power output of 230kW (313bhp) with low CO2 emissions in the combined cycle of just 109 g/km, or zero in electric only mode.

Heralding a future new vehicle in the range, Peugeot raises eyebrows by presenting the PROLOGUE HYmotion4.

Naughtier Kitty: 2009 Jaguar XFR goes hunting M5s and E63s

Jaguar has gone outside the box with nearly every aspect of the XF. Its look is fresh and bold. The interior design and technology are anything but retro. Unlike its competitors from Germany, there's no six-cylinder "base" model sold in the U.S. Perhaps trying to focus more beginner buyers toward the updated-for-2008 X-Type, you'll find no fewer than eight cylinders beneath an XF bonnet.

Buy-in begins with the aforementioned 4.2-liter, 300-horsepower V-8. The XF Supercharged ups the ante to the same blown, 4.2-liter, 420-horsepower V-8 currently huffing away in the performance-minded XKR coupe/convertible and XJR sedan. But BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz offer their midsize sport/lux four-doors with 450 to 500 horses. So that's where Jag is headed with the XFR.

Our intel suggests the XFR V-8 will share certain architecture with the current AJV8 engine, but employ, at minimum, a new block able to be sized at 5.0 liters and beyond. Atop that will be supercharging and intercooling. The result should be at least 500 horsepower in blown form, with a 400-or-so-horse, naturally aspirated version to come later, perhaps replacing the current supercharged 4.2. The XFR's transmission will remain the excellent ZF six-speed automatic, with paddle shifters as on the XKR, plus its own unique calibration.

Standard on the XFR will be 20-inch light-alloy wheels and speed-rated rubber, along with the usual cocktail of upgraded brakes, stiffer suspension tuning, a beefier exhaust note, and sportier interior trim. Visuals likely will ape other Jaguar "R" models, meaning a bit less chrome, wire-mesh front grillework, more aggressive front and rear fascias, a rear lip spoiler, and a slightly reduced ride height.

The XFR will show its production face sometime in 2008 as a 2009 model. Pricing has yet to be announced, but it'll be aggressively positioned against the M5 and E63, meaning a predicted base of just under $80,000.

New Audi S4

Following the release of Audi's fourth-generation B8 A4 Sedan at the Frankfurt Motor Show two weeks ago, we bring you the first spy pictures of a fully undisguised Audi S4 on the roads of Ingolstadt.

Compared to the standard new-generation A4, the S4 features new S-style bumpers, a small bootlid spoiler as well as quad exhaust pipes. Powered by Audi's 4.2-litre V8, putting out some 340 bhp in the current B7 Audi S4, the new-generation S4 is expected to get a slight power boost to keep its Munchen- and Stuttgart-based rivals at bay. In usual Audi fashion, the range-topping S-models are equipped with the Quattro four-wheel drive technology. This time buyers will have a choice between a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

Our colleagues over at Motorauthority.com are reporting that Audi may debut its all-new sport differential, capable of "distributing torque from the engine in continuously variable proportions between the rear wheels," in the 2009 S4.

According to Audi, the controlled power flow "enables the car to take corners even more directly and responsively, and to retain its directional stability considerably longer" adding that understeer becomes a thing of the past. The sport differential will be available from 2008 onwards, indeed suggesting that it will be in the model year 2009 range for the S4.

2010 BMW Z2 - Car News

New BMW roadster to compete in less pricey MX-5 Miata segment. Z2 should sell for less than $30,000 when it appears, most likely in 2010.
According to sources inside BMW, the German automaker plans to launch a roadster priced well below the current Z4, which starts at $36,295. Although the price has not been set, the new two-seat droptop, dubbed the Z2, is expected to occupy the sub-$30,000 roadster segment that is currently dominated by the Pontiac Solstice and Mazda MX-5. The successor to today's Z4 will remain near $40,000 and will continue to compete against the Audi TT, Porsche Boxster, Nissan 350Z, and Chevrolet Corvette.
The upcoming bargain-basement two-seater will reportedly be based on the chassis and components of the current Z4, but it will measure a mere 151 inches in length, making it about 10 inches shorter than today's Z4. Styling for the Z2 is in the process of being finalized, but we expect the diminutive roadster to have short overhangs and 19-inch wheels. Our artist's rendering provides an idea of what BMW might have in store for its Solstice and MX-5 fighter.

Unlike today's Z4, which is powered exclusively by six-cylinder engines, the Z2 will only get four-cylinder power. However, those engines will range in strength from 150 horsepower in base versions all the way to a turbocharged 300-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the M-tuned version. An expected curb weight of 2800 pounds should allow the Z2 to make the most of that power. Transmission choices will include a traditional manual and — surprise, surprise — a double-clutch gearbox similar to Volkswagen/Audi's DSG. BMW plans on replacing its rough-shifting sequential manual gearboxes with smoother DSG-like transmissions before the end of the decade.

To keep costs down, a nearly identical chassis to today's Z4 will underpin the Z2 — struts up front with a multilink setup in back — but there will be the option of adjustable shocks. The electric power-steering rack from the Z4 will also live on in the Z2, with optional variable-ratio active steering.

Set to go on sale in 2010, the made-in-America BMW Z2 should add some German flavor to a segment dominated by the Americans and Japanese.

2009 Porsche Panamera

With the Porsche Panamera undergoing constant testing before its official début later this year our photographers have managed to capture numerous spyshots, but now we bring you our artist rendering of what we expect the Panamera to look like.

As expected the Panamera will most likely share a similar front to the rest of the Porsche lineup, however the car is inherently different to the rest of the German stable.

Unlike the 911, the Panamera is a conventional front-engined rear-wheel drive that will become Porsche’s Grand Tourer. The car will be put together in Porsche’s Leipzig facility with the engines originating from Stuttgart and the car’s painted shell crafted in Hanover by Volkswagen.

Porsche will compete directly against its German and Italian rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG and Maserati Quattroporte. There is also the possibility of taking sales away from the Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin Rapide and even the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti .
The Panamera will be a big step for Porsche as the first V8 powered sports car (not counting the Cayenne SUV) the company has built since the Porsche 928 ceased production in 1995.

Porsche insiders have said the Panamera range will include at least three engine choices, Volkswagen’s 3.5-litre six-cylinder, which develops a healthy 223kW and Porsche’s own direct-injection eight-cylinder petrol engines, available in naturally-aspirated guise (261kW) and with twin-turbos (417kW).

Renault Laguna 3

Noul Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport - New Bugatti Veyron
